South West Artisans and Agriculture are Celebrated at the Peel Produce Market

There are many gorgeous markets popping up in and around Rockingham at this festive time of year, and that’s wonderful, but there’s one market which celebrates local artisans, farmers, and small businesses all year round — Peel Produce Market.

The market began with a small group of passionate local producers and artisans. Everything flowed seamlessly as this is a passion to feed communities and to bring people together to this day, we have original first day traders that are coming every weekend.

Megan Walsh, Peel Produce Market Founder

A Vision to Connect the Community to Local Growers and Creators

Peel Produce Market founder Megan Walsh started the market in 2021, with a vision to ‘create a community-based market to bring people together and foster a strong local network’.

That the market has been such a success from its inception is proof of how much the local community craved the nourishment provided by these events where fresh locally grown produce, small-batch artisanal products and locally created handicrafts are available, alongside entertainment for all, including young families.

There’s an abundance of talent in and around Western Australia’s Peel region, so a generous array of creations and services are available at any one time, including woodcraft, jewellery, small-batch food and drink, housewares, candles, flowers and more. If you’ve visited the market and missed out on getting the details of a vendor you love, the Peel Produce Market website has a handy ‘Meet Our Vendors’ tab to search.

Sustainability is Integral to this Small Business

The market’s values include supporting local businesses and producers, promoting sustainable practices, fostering community engagement and connection, and showcasing the region's unique character and charm.

When I asked how sustainability features in Peel Produce Market’s values, Megan answered, ‘Sustainability is integral to our market. We prioritize eco-friendly practices, encourage stallholders to reduce waste and promote environmentally responsible products.

‘There are three important things in life: family, friends and food!’

The team all live in the region, and BBQs are a favourite local day out.

A Lesson from One Entrepreneur to Another

I ask this question of all interviewees; after all, we are all learning from each other. Megan shared, ‘One valuable lesson learned is the importance of building strong relationships with local suppliers, stakeholders and the community. This has been crucial in overcoming challenges and ensuring the market's success. I have been an entrepreneur all of my life so personal growth is paramount to a successful business.’

Head along to Peel Produce Market’s Instagram page to find out what’s on this December (2024) and give it a like for year-round updates.
